Here is the Size Cycle in action.
At Harpeth Bicycles we believe that a true custom bike is one that is made to the precise dimensions that ensure total cooperation with the way you are put together - a bicycle that works as an extension of your body. We employ highly developed, time tested, tuned techniques and mechanisms that guarantee you are riding a bicycle that is explicitly yours, working in concert with you as you pedal.
Beyond our certifications as bicycle fitters, a significant investment in equipment and tools, our many years of actual racing experience (not just talking or reading about it!) and many, many thousands of miles riding for both fun and training make it possible for us to understand precisely your needs as a competitive or recreational athlete and cyclist. You will not find any self-proclaimed fit gurus here - we've done our time in the saddle, in the classroom, and in the business of custom made bicycles!
There are only a few shops in the U. S. where you will find all these capabilities in one place, certainly no other within our geographic region. We are the only trained and certified bicycle fitters in the Mid-South.
Our fitting system will also identify the very best fit on your current bike or a new stock bike. We can adjust our tools to match your current set-up or the exact geometry of a new bicycle you are considering buying. Or we will use your bike or the bike you are purchasing as the test-bed. From that point of departure we fine tune your positioning and fit to maximize your comfort and performance.
The Process Starts with You.
First, we listen to you about how you ride, your cycling goals and look into the ways your body works.
Some of the questions we might ask:
Are you actively racing or training for competition?
Do you ride long distances like centuries or ultra marathons?
Do you mostly do club rides of moderate distances with your friends?
Do you ride alone?
Do you have any prior injuries that affect the way you ride a bike?
What are your cycling goals?
Beginning with this specific information we find direction to help you get the "just right fit" to take you where you want to go with comfort and speed.
Gathering Basic Data.
Next, basic body dimensions and samplings of your flexibility, core strength and range of motion are determined, vital statistics that help to determine your positioning on the bike for comfort and power transmission. The aim is to design a bike that works with you, within the range of your strengths and abilities, not against you.

Size Cycle, Racermate adjustable cranks, CompuTrainer
Precise, Scientific Measurements.
When you climb on the Serotta Size Cycle, our infinitely adjustable sizing tool, we can assess your posture, see your pedal stroke in action, judge how relaxed you are in the saddle and how easily you’re able to draw in large volumes of air.
Step by step, we work with you to piece together a complete picture of you as a cyclist. By adding a CompuTrainer ergometer and specialized software and VariCranks to the already highly capable Serotta Size Cycle we can determine by precise measurement your power output and pedaling efficiency with varying frame angles, seat, handlebar, stem, crank dimensions, and cleat positioning.
On the Bike.
We study your positional coordinates as you spin the pedals, looking for the place where your movement fires most effectively – where power, endurance, comfort, and to varying extents aerodynamics, are optimized. Following the kinetic chain, we can then accurately determine the coordinates of your custom fit.
The Result.
There is no short-cut to finding your perfect ride. Prepare to allow a couple of hours for the whole fit process - later you’ll agree it was time well spent. You'll be riding faster, longer and more comfortably than ever before. Every time you ride you'll be amazed at how your bicycle performs under you and how much more fun your riding has become.
